Brief history
Girona Football Club was founded on July 25, 1930 in the Norat café,
replacing the UE Girona club. The new team played its first match against
Colonia Artigas in Division B of the Catalan championship.
In 1934, Girona played for the first time in the Spanish Championship (Division
B).
In the 1958/59 season, the team was relegated from Division B and for the next
50 years played in the third, fourth division and even in the regional
championship, returning to Segunda only in 2008.
In 2017, Girona finished second in Division B and reached La Liga for the first
time, but only lasted two seasons there, managing, however, to beat Real Madrid.
In 2022, Girona finished sixth in Segunda and were promoted to the First
Division following the playoffs.
The following season, the team took 10th place, and in 2024 sensationally won
the bronze medals, earning a ticket to the UEFA Champions League.
